With just over a week to go before the new English Premier League season
starts, last season’s shock title winners, Leicester City, are starting their
new football season on a high note and will be looking to show the world why
they deserved the title. This Sunday (7 August), when they meet Manchester
United for the FA Community Shield at Wembley, it will be with a sharp
competitive as United are starting a new era with Jose Murhinho at the helm.
DStv Premium and Compact Plus customers will have a front-row view of the
football action on SuperSport 3 when the anticipated game broadcasts live and
in HD at 16:45pm CAT.
It’s a fresh start for Murinho, who will lead a new team in his fifth
Community Shield tournament. With just one win out of the four while at
Chelsea, he will be looking to make a good impression on Manchester United fans.
His renowned attention to detail has pundits second-guessing his tactics, but
whichever he chooses, fans will have a preview of Mourinho’s side before the
new season.
The defending Premier League Champions, led by Claudio Ranieri, will
also be looking to show their fans how they plan to defend their hard-won
title. While considered “inexperienced” by the football world, there’s no doubt
that they’re hungry to maintain their edge, especially on the world stage. With
the departure of one of their last season’s key players, N’Golo Kante, to
Chelsea, Ranieri has a huge task of filling gap in their midfield and, fortunately,
the addition of Nampalys Mendy from Nice along with Andy King, Gökhan
Inler or Matty James gives the Italian a few options to play with. The
defending champions also look fully prepared to defend their title with the
addition of Ron-Robert Zieler, who was signed from Hannover, Spanish
defender Luis Hernandez from Sporting Gijon and Nigerian
winger Ahmed Musa from CSKA Moscow.
Leicester is not the only side that has made a significant signing during
the transfer window. This weekend, all eyes will be on Manchester United’s new
signings Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrik Mkhitaryan. Despite the
talk of competition for space at Old Trafford between Wayne Rooney and Zlatan
in Murinho’s starting line-up, fans have been keeping fingers crossed for management
to close on 23-year-old Juventus player Paul Pogba’s touted £100million move to
United - which will make him the most expensive player in the world - in time
for the clash this Sunday in his new No 6 shirt.
With four new signings that will possibly include Pogba along with Eric
Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, will Murinho succeed in
regaining The Red Devils’ throne as the kings of English football in the new
season? Will Leicester continue their counter-attacking tactics to stave off
the coming onslaught of Mourinho’s powerful signings or switch to a new strategy
of controlling the play? Catch all this action and drama of the FA Community
Shield between Leicester City and Manchester United on
Sunday 7 August, live and in HD on SS3 from 16:45pm CAT.
